EVM to be made compulsory for next Lok Sabha polls

In connection with the Lok Sabha election which is scheduled to be held next year, a training programme for all the DCs, SPs, SDOs and BDOs of the nine districts of the State began from today at the office building of Chief Election Officer (CEO), Manipur at Lamphelpat here.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the training programme which would go on for two days, CEO O Nabakishore informed that the training programme for all the DCs, SPs, SDOs and BDOs of the nine districts of the State is being conducted at the instruction of the Election Commission to make officials understand about their duties and responsibilities towards ensuring successful conduct of the election.
Moreover, as per the instruction given by the Election Commission of India, use of Electronic Voting Machines would be mandatory in all the polling stations in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Accordingly, EVMs have been made ready after necessary checking and testing conducted by an Engineer sent by Election Commission of India.
The checked EVMs are now being kept in the strong-room of the Election Office where there is facility for CCTV cameras.
Clarifying over the complaint raised by some political parties during the checking of EVMs for Thoubal district, Nabakishore asserted that no fault had been detected during checking/testing of the EVMs for Thoubal district, he added.
