Imphal, April 19 2016:
The Senapati District Students' Association
(SDSA) in association with the district admin-
istration organised a cleanliness drive along a
stretch of river that flows through Senapati dis-
trict Hqs today, a statement informed.
Private schools association, local resi-
dents (Makhrelui, TNK, Monday market)
and those residing at the bank of the river
took part in the sanitization drive.
Over one thousand people took part in
the drive.
The participants collected solid
wastes and garbages dumped into the river
which were later picked up by the town
committee.
Speaking by the sidelines of the drive,
SDSA president Pungdi P Celestine said
owing to the absence of proper mechanism
for waste collection and disposal, majority
of the wastes find their way on the roadside,
outside one's compound, into the drains and
other rivers.
Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus
along with SDSA officials inspected the
social work.
SDSA and the district citizens are en-
couraged by the demonstration of the district
administration in its seriousness to address
the garbage/solid waste woes, Celestine
stated.
The district administration will
shortly convene a meeting for SDSA and
other stakeholders to discuss the issue.
