Two lady IPS officers of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived in Imphal today.
They were believed to have been sent to investigate cases involving women activists of UG outfits.
The two women IPS officers, DIG (Intelligence) Coy, Satawanta Trivedi and SP Satish Rani, arrived here by a flight.
They will stay here till their mission has been completed.
They are likely to arrest some women or conduct searches in some houses during the course of their investigation, a highly placed source said.
The agency, mention may be made, is investigating into the case registered against arrested UNLF chairman RK Meghen and other 18 members of the outfit including a woman from Assam, murder of MU Prof Md Islamuddin and the attempted bomb blast at Raj Bhavan, among others.
For the case against RK Meghen and its arrested members, NIA had filed a charge-sheet in the Special Court of the NIA, Guwahati in February.
In the followed investigation into the charge-sheet of the the FIR no 10/10 under sections 120(B), read with sections 121, 121(A),122 of IPC ,16, 17, 18,18A, 18B and 20 of UA(P) Act,1967 as amended in 2008 .
Among the charge-sheeted members, Khwairakpam (o) Landhoni was one.
The NIA had claimed to have established that arrested UNLF members used to raise funds through extortion in Manipur and then transfer them to countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar for purchase of sophisticated arms and ammunition to be used by the UNLF.
The NIA had even raided houses of some officials, businessmen apart from raiding the office of the Lamyanba Publication at the Palace compound.
On the other hand, IGP TK Vaiphei, IPS, of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has arrived in Imphal from New Delhi to review the security of the Chief Minister who is protected by personnel of the SSG (Special Security Guard) of the CISF.
With the expiry of the engagement period of the SSG guarding the CM, the state government had set up a dedicated state force to take over the charge of safeguarding the CM.
In this transitional period half of the dedicated personnel have already joined the guards of the CM.
A 74-personnel strength of the state force including two Jemandars who obtained special VIP security training from NSG Training Centre in Haryana in the first week of January 2011 is to take over the responsibility for the protection of the CM.
The process of replacement is likely to be completed soon, the source disclosed without mentioning the exact date of taking over of charge.
TK Vaiphei who arrived here yesterday will review the security of the CM and the total handing over of the security to the dedicated force is likely to depend on his review report, the source believed.
