Tree plantation campaign kicks off

Kangpokpi, June 24 2019:
With an aim to protect and preserve the natural beauty and maintain ecological balance of Mt Koubru, hundreds of volunteers of Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru planted around 800 tree saplings along the hill range, yesterday.
The committee was formed in May last year to promote, protect and preserve the long neglected Mt Koubru to become a tourist destination.
Tree plantation campaign conducted along the hill range of Mt Koubru is one of the top priority programme plan by the committee this year.
It has planted almost thousand tree saplings from the foothill of Kolpechang village till almost upto the peak of Mt Koubru in its first drive.

Around 120 volunteers who took part in the tree plantation campaign were transported by Shaktiman till Kolpechang village in the morning and drop back after the plantation drive in the evening.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the plantation drive, Thangminlen Kipgen, Jt secretary of Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru said that the second highest peak of Manipur, the Mt Koubru has much mythological significance for various communities in the State but the natural beauty of it (Mt Koubru) has been threatened by human activities and ecological degradation.
While conveying sincere gratitude to Forest Department for providing adequate tree saplings, the Jt secretary who is also a part of the tree plantation drive urged the concerned authority and the State Government to take neccesary steps to restore the natural beauty of Mt Koubru.
