Imphal, October 23 2018:
Most Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of Manipur do not comply with the norms and guidelines given by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Director General of Training (DGT), alleged the All Manipur ITIs Students' Union (AMISU).
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, AMISU president Parker Lourembam said that there are 11 ITIs in the State but none of them comply with the norms and guidelines laid down by the DGT except the two ITIs located at Takyel.
The other ITIs are located at Phaknung, Ningthoukhong, Kakching, Saikot, Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Jiribam and Chandel.
Whereas these nine ITIs have been degenerating every year due to non-compliance with the DGT's guidelines and norms, machines and equipment installed at the two ITIs of Takyel are not maintained properly, he said.
He alleged that there were instances where holidays were declared at the Takyel ITIs by teachers in cahoot with students.
The existing infrastructure have also worn out.
Trades opened at ITIs are classified into two groups under National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) and State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT).
On account of failure to comply with the norms of the DGT, certain trades listed under NCVT have been closed, Parker said.
The matter has been apprised to the Minister and officials concerned repeatedly but to no avail so far.
He then said that they would be compelled to launch agitation if the authorities concerned do not look into the matter at the earliest.
