Imphal, August 30 2013 :
Formally inaugurating the operation theatre of Thoubal District Hospital at Khangabok today, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing called upon doctors and nurses to treat the patients not only through medication but with humane touch.
As chief guest of the inauguration programme, Phungzathang desired that doctors enquire into well-being and recovery status of the patients, who underwent operation, rather than the current practice of nurses taking over charge of looking after the patients.
Describing role of nursing staff members as crucial and decisive in the speed of recovery of the patient, he opined that nurses taking care of the patient as one of their family members would have positive impact on the patients.
While pointing out that ban on tobacco products is a part of the health policy, the Minister regretted downsiz-ing policy covering the Health Department with the assertion that improvement in the health sector would materialise only when adequate staff strength could be ensured.
Apart from extending professional medical service to the patients cleanliness of the medical centre should be maintained at any cost, he said and strongly advocated availability of doctors round the clock.
Khangabok AC MLA O Landhoni, who also spoke at the occasion, assured to consult the Chief Minister and the Health Minister to ensure adequate strength of medical personnel and provide requisite infrastructure.
Among others, MLA K Meghachandra Singh, Health and Family Welfare's Principal Secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar, Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner and District Health society (Thoubal) Chairman T Ranjit Singh and State Health society Manipur State Mission Director Dr Okram ibomcha also attended the event.
