Sumita murder case : 9 days remand for main accused

The main accused in the murder case of Kshetrimayum Sumita, was remanded to 9 days in police custody after he was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East Court today.
The main accused, Md Abdul Wahid Khan s/o (L) Md Amir Ali alias Kala of Kshetri Bengoon Mayai Leikai, was produced before the Court by a team of Irilbung police along with a prayer for remanding him to police custody.
During the proceeding, the IO of the case, submitted that Md Abdul Wahid Khan was arrested yesterday night in connection with the murder of Ksh Sumita Devi who was found dead at a road side at Thiyam Chingjin on June 24.The IO explained that a complaint was lodged by the husband of the deceased on June 24 stating that his wife was found dead at a road side at Thiyam Chingjin after she went out with one Laimayum Amubi on the same day and that the victim was found with blood on her nostrils and a cloth (pink and black checked) about 5 feet in length strung around her neck.
During the course of investigation, L Amubi was arrested and on preliminary interrogation, she revealed that she had come along with the deceased woman to demand money which was borrowed by one of her friends Further Amubi revealed that the deceased Ksh Sumita was killed by Md Wahid and his associate who were hired/ contracted by her as Sumita refused to pay back money owed to her.
She also disclosed that she conspired with her husband Laimayum Indra Sharma of Thangapat Palace compound in the commission of the crime and hence both of them (husband and wife) were lodged in police custody remand till July 2, the IO explained.
During further course of investigation, a Maruti van (WB-06-1306) which was used in the crime by the main culprit and his associate, was found abandoned at Kshetri Bengoon Mayai Leikai and was seized by police.
The IO further submitted that after hectic efforts, Md Abdul Wahid Khan of Kshetri Bengoon Mayai Leikai was arrested yesterday.
The IO further submitted that during interrogation, Abdul Wahid admitted to taking part in the murder along with his accomplice and as such, his remand is necessary to solve the case.
The Court, after hearing the police submission and going through the case records, remanded the main culprit to 9 days in police custody, till July 5.On the other hand, womenfolk from the locality of the deceased, along with members of the JAC formed in connection with the case, took out a protest demonstration rally today morning and marched towards the Chief Minister Bungalow to submit a memorandum.
However the protesters were stopped by a team of Imphal East district police at Thumbuthong area after which the rally was instead held in the surrounding area of Bamon Leikai.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister by some JAC members, demanding immediate arrest of the remaining culprits.
The memo also demanded enough compensation for the family of the victim and to give capital punishment to the culprits.
