Imphal, June 24 2019:
Passenger bus service on Imphal-Kakching, Imphal-Chandel, Imphal-Sugnu, Imphal-Serou and Imphal-Chakpikarong routes would be suspended for 48 hours from July 1.Speaking to media persons at their Paona Keithel office this afternoon, Burma-Sugnu Road Bus Owners Welfare Union general secretary Th Radheshyam remarked that Manipur State Transport (MST) bus service was suddenly launched on May 19 this year on Imphal-Thoubal-Kakching route contrary to the State Government's declaration to introduce MST bus service on routes/areas where bus service is not available.
Altogether 80 buses affiliated to Burma-Sugnu Road Bus Owners Welfare Union have been plying on Imphal-Kakching, Imphal-Chandel, Imphal-Sugnu, Imphal-Serou and Imphal-Chakpikarong routes in accordance with a time-table approved by the Transport Department.
But introduction of MST bus service on Imphal-Thoubal-Kakching route has derailed the whole time-table, Radheshyam said.
There is also MST bus service to and from Imphal and Kakching along Mayai Lambi and the Burma-Sugnu Road Bus Owners Welfare Union has no objection to this operation.
Radheshyam said that they submitted a representation highlighting their grievances to the Chief Minister, the Transport Commissioner and the Director on May 30 but there has been no response till date.
Moreover, the union's efforts to talk with the Transport Commissioner were spurned.
As such, the union wishes appointment of a senior officer who understands the woes of transporters as the Transport Commissioner, he said.
He added they would appeal to other transport organisations to support their agitation scheduled on July 1 and 2 .
