Shillong, November 21 2014 :
The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Friday has called the encounter killings in Sesapani under Dubhnoi by the Assam Police in collaboration with the Indian Army a staged encounter to make up numbers.
In a release issued by the GNLA's joint publicity secretary, Garo Mandei Ch Marak, it was stated that the three killed were innocent people with no links to the outfit and the GNLA warned that it will not keep quiet if things continue in this way.
"The news which appeared on November 21, 2014, stating that three GNLA militants were killed in an encounter at Sesapani under Dudhnoi police station in Goalpara district, Assam, is nothing but another fake encounter drama staged by the Indian army and the Assam police," said Marak.
The GNLA has also reminded that a few months ago another similar incident took place when two unarmed civilians were killed by the Assam police and 19th Dogra Regiment of the Indian army who were alleged to be GNLA cadres.
Lambasting the Army and the Assam police for the spate of alleged fake encounters, Marak said "The most corrupt police department of India (Assam police) and the Indian army have been on a killing spree of unarmed tribal people.
It has been their dirty game to kill innocents" .
