Crackdown down on HSRP-less vehicles soon

All vehicles (both Government and private) which do not have high security registration plates (HSRP) would be pulled up and fines would be imposed on owners starting from October I .
Speaking to media persons at the office of Transport Department this afternoon, Motor Vehicle Inspector Th Dinachandra said that the department would start enforcing the verdict passed by the Supreme Court regarding HSRP on April 12, 2012 .
So far, around 70 per cent of the vehicles registered with the State Transport Department have been affixed HSRPs.
As for the remaining 30 per cent, there is no option other than imposing fines as per law in case they do not get HSRPs before
October 1 .
Defaulters are now fined Rs 100 to Rs 200 these days but the fine would be increased to Rs 2000 from October 1 .
Appealing to all the people to get HSRPs for their vehicles, Dinachandra said that HSRPs can be obtained even if receipts issued for the same have been lost or misplaced.
He further appealed to all two-wheeler riders to wear BIS certified head gears or helmets.
While Motor Vehicle officials registered 1359 cases and collected Rs 1,75,100 as fine from people who were driving/riding vehicles in contravention of rules and regulations, Traffic Control Police registered 1300 cases and collected Rs 2,60,000 as fine in the course of the ongoing drive launched since September 6 .
