Imphal, October 25 2013 :
A man and a woman have been apprehended and handed over to the police today by volunteers of an NGO for the duo's alleged attempt to dupe beneficiaries of the MOBC's housing scheme for physically and mentally challenged persons.
According to Relief Centre for the Welfare of the Differently Abled Persons, Manipur president Okendra, Maklang Gram Panchayat member Konthoujam Prema and Md Abdul Gaffar of Mayang Imphal were handed over to the police on the charge of duping beneficiaries of the MOBC scheme.
It is said that Prema initiated file process for scheme beneficiary Khoisnam Ibomcha (30) s/o Kh Kumar of Karong Mamang Leikai under Lamshang assembly constituency.
Despite getting information that Ibomcha has been selected as a beneficiary Prema never revealed the truth thus prompting kumar to personally enquire at the MOBC office today.
With MOBC officials telling Kumar that 20 GI sheets meant for Ibomcha has already been collected by Prema a few moments ago, Kumar searched for the Gram Panchayat member and eventually located her having heated confrontation with Md Abdul Gaffar at Uripok Traffic point (RIMS crossing).
On kumar's intervention, Prema contended that Gaffar insisted on having 10 of the GI sheets as he too was involved in file processing.
Even as the argument was on volunteers of the NGO (Relief Centre) reached the spot and subsequently handed both Prema and Gaffar to Imphal Police station, Okendra explained and cautioned differently abled persons from relying on dubious individuals to avail Government assistance.
He also claimed that the volunteers had been maintaining vigil following information about individuals impersonating/duping scheme beneficiaries.
