Fake Army recruitment racket busted

Imphal, May 15 2011:
A combined team of 18 Sikh and Bishnupur police commandos has reportedly busted a fake army recruitment racket with the arrest of an individual identified as Sorokhaibam Romi Singh alias Romichandra.
A statement issued by 18 Sikh, said Romi had been fooling the general public by posing as an army officer (captain) and deceiving the people into believing that he would recruit them into the Army.
The racket was busted in the early hours of May 15 in front of the Maibam Company operating base of 18 Sikh, when the combined team cornered the individual while he came to ask for the money from a betel shop right next to the Japanese War memorial, maintained the statement listing a combat uniform, two mobile phones, a 9 mm pistol (fake) and few sim cards.
Photocopies of an identity card attached to the statement indicate that it was issued to Romi by a private security service called Dectect Security force, Chingmeirong and the individual's address entered as Nongpok Kakching.
With the arrest of Romi Singh the people of the area have heaved a sigh of relief as they had been terrorised by his extortion demands for long, expressed the statement.
