Imphal, November 14 2018:
Former Deputy Chief Minister G Gaikhangam has today said that Congress party will continue to pick holes in the functioning of the BJP led Government as a responsible and aware Opposition party.
Hitting back at an earlier allegation of the BJP, Gaikhangam said that the MU crisis was caused due to the mishandling of the issue by the and the Congress party does not have to repeatedly point this out as the people of the State know it.
On the allegation that the Congress had jeopardized the academic career of thousands of students for a prolonged period for political gains, Gaikhangam asserted that the Congress party will not indulge in the game of deception which is a calling of the BJP.
Speaking by the sidelines of the 129th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru which was organized by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan today, the former Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that Opposition parties function like the brake of a vehicle by pointing out the mistakes of the Government.
He went on to state that every citizen has the right to criticize or tell what is wrong and right in the functioning of a Government.
The Government, he said would effectively function if it seriously considers its mistakes and appreciate those who point out the mistakes instead of reacting to everyone who points out the blunders of the Government.
The Congress party's involvement in the four month long MU crisis was in the interest of the public as it had affected the academic pursuit of thousands of students.
The Congress party was being an effective Opposition by pointing out the blunders of the Government, he further said.
Meanwhile, MPCC president TN Haokip accused the BJP and RSS of trying to delete the names of Mahatma Gandhi who is widely known as father of the Nation as well as Jawaharlal Nehru from the history of India.
He also said that BJP and RSS have been attempting to replace the names of the two great Indian leaders with their more favoured leaders.
Paying floral tributes to the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru erected inside the Congress Bhawan complex by leaders of MPCC and volunteers marked the main event of the observation.
