10 including 2 cops held

Amidst the lockdown-like situation seen in the State since the last couple of days following declaration of the whole Greater Imphal area as a containment zone, 10 alleged drug abusers/peddlers including one Police Constable and one IRB Rifleman have been pulled up by volunteers of Kyamgei Khagi Club (KKC) .
On receiving information that some people have been visiting Kyamgei Muslim every now and then for purchasing illegal drugs, volunteers of KKC checked commuters at Kyamgei Mamang Leikai near Khagemba Macha Ibungo premises yesterday afternoon.
In the course of checking the commuters, the 10 individuals were detained who were later handed over to Irilbung police station.
The anti-drug drive was carried our at the behest of Keirao AC MLA and Manipur State Planning Board Deputy Chairman Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei.
It is said that KKC volunteers would carry on the drive.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Imphal East SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam confirmed that the 10 people pulled by the locals of Kyamgei and handed over to Irilbung police station include one Police Constable and one IRB Rifleman.
The Constable has been identified as one Nameirakpam Leimaba (30) of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai while the IRB Rifleman is one Mainam Raju (36) of Khongnang Pheidekpi.
Eight vials each containing one gram of unknown substance suspected to be No 4 powder were seized from the possession of Leimaba and seven similar vials from Raju.
The SP informed that both of them have been suspended and other departmental action would be initiated against them.
Acting on the disclosure of the duo, two drug dealers have been apprehended from Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai.
They have been identified as Md Salam s/o Md Kaher and Abdul Khalique s/o Abdul Ghani.
A plastic bottle containing suspected heroin and weighing around 10 gms was seized from the possession of Md Salam.
Moreover, 16 empty vials and Rs 27,400 in cash were seized from his possession.
Another plastic bottle containing suspected heroin which weighs around 7 gms and six empty vials were recovered from Abdul Khalique.
According to the press release issued by the Imphal East SP, a case has been registered at Irilbung police station under NDPS Act and further investigation is on.
