Aizawl, November 21 2014 :
In a landmark resolution, Aizawl Municipality Council in its meeting over Control of Parking and Collection of Parking Fees Regulations, 2012, unanimously agreed to shift all maxi cab stands located within inner city of Aizawl to the outskirt (external) .
The decision to shift or re-locate all Maxi cab stands from inner Aizawl to outside city was taken by Parking Committee, a branch of AMC constituted under Control of Parking and Collection of Parking Fees Regulations, 2012, in its meeting on November 17 .
Speaking to media persons during a press conference, AMC leaders said the decision shift the location of maxi cab stands was taken with the consent of Mizoram Maxi Cab Owners' Association (MMCOA), Traffic police and Aizawl City Local Council.
The new stands will be used with effect from December 15, 2014 .
At present, there are 1122 maxi cabs plying within Mizoram State and servicing between Mizoram and other neighboring States.
Citing the reasons for relocating of maxi cab (sumo) stands, Control of Parking and Collection of Parking Fees Committee observed that with the fast increasing population, material and vehicular progress in Aizawl city, the State capital has since recent times become too congested greatly inconveniencing the people.
"To avert traffic jam and make our inner road uncongested for safety of the people, a circumstance has arisen where we finally need to shift all maxi cab stands to the outskirt or at the gate of Aizawl city", AMC leaders said.
As per the new plan, 4 maxi cab stands will be made at four different locations.
In the North of Aizawl city, it will be placed at a place (158 meter range) opposite Mahindra show room near Greenwood Hospital at Bawngkawn.
The northern stand will be utilized by inter-State sumo services (Aizawl to Silchar, Shillong, and Guwahati ) and sumo services along Vairengte and Kolasib.
In the North East (Bawngkawn-Lunglei road), stand will be arranged along the road between Hauva petrol pump and below Thuampui helipad.
This maxi cab stand will cover 307.6 meter for use of inter-State sumo services like Manipur and internal State services running along Ratu, Serchip and Cahmphai road.
In the South West, sumo stand will be located at Hunthar within a diameter of 159 sq.m width.
This stand will utilized by sumo running from Aizawl to W.Phaileng, Rawpui-chhip, Mamit and Hachhek etc.
