Man behind Pallel twin blasts nabbed : Police

Thoubal Police today claimed to have arrested an active member of proscribed PREPAK (Pro) who was involved in triggering the twin bomb blasts at Pallel Bazar on November 6 that killed one migrant worker and injured six others.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Modarsim DS alias Naphal (41), s/o Modun DS of Langol Khunou, Chandel district.
Talking to media persons at the conference hall of SP Thoubal today evening, SDPO of Yairipok K Meghachandra said that a team of Thoubal Police Commandos led by Inspector Ch Anandkumar conducted cordon and search operation at Langol Khunou area at around 2.30 am today acting on a tip-off that the main suspects of Pallel blasts, both cadres of PREPAK (Pro) namely S/S Capt Thoudam Jiten, s/o (late) Thoudam Nabadweep of Maibam Leikai Imphal West and Angrung DS alias Arun Maring alias Khununglakpa (36), s/o Modun DS of Langol Khunou were moving around with IED to trigger another blast at Pallel area.

The police team then cordoned and searched the house of Angrung DS at around 3.30 am.
One unknown person was found inside the house.
As he saw the police team, the unknown person tried to escape from the front door.
However, he was overpowered by the police personnel.
On spot verification, the man identified himself as Modarshim DS who joined the PREPAK (Pro) through his younger brother S/S L/Cpl Angrung DS, the SDPO said.
According to the police, Modarshim further revealed that under the command of his younger brother Angrung and Capt Thoudam Jiten he collected four IEDs from Khudhei Khullen and kept at his house about two months back.
The IEDs were meant for targeting non-locals at Pallel area as a part of CorCom's attack on the non-locals.
About one month back, three IEDs were taken from Modarshim by his younger brother Angrung and they were used to target the non-locals at Pallel Bazar on November 6 .
The remaining one IED was also handed over to one Morungpham, s/o (late) Korang of Minou to be used in another attack on non-locals after the Pallel blasts, the police officer stated.
SDPO Meghachandra further said that the police team then rushed to the house of Morungpham and conducted search operation there.
One polythene bag (black in colour) containing one black coloured IED weighing about four Kg with the inscription "MFD BY: Dept of Defe RED ARMY PREPAK" along with a remote control device was found concealed inside a wooden box kept in the bedroom of Morungpham as pointed out by Modarshim.
The police formally arrested Modarshim along with the IED at Minou at around 4.20 am today.
