HC complex ready for PM's touch

Guwahati High Court, Imphal Bench which has been running on the ground belonging to the Imphal Municipality sans its requisite infrastructure is set to see a new era once the High Court building being constructed at Mantripukhri is completed.
The High Court building being constructed at Mantripukhri is almost finished and the infrastructure available there is fit for a separate High Court.
The High Court building is set to be inaugurated on December 3 by the Prime Minister.
To build the High Court building, the Government acquired 12.40 acres of land in April 2006 .
The foundation stone for the High Court building was laid by Chief Justice of India YK Shabarwal on April 30,
2006 .
Kolkata based M/S Simplex Infrastructure started construction work of the High Court building in the same year.
As per the agreement signed with the work agency, the estimated cost of the complex was Rs 87.80 crores.

However, the cost would be revised again as some amounts not included in the DPR were also included in the project cost.
The High Court building includes seven rooms for Chief Justice, Judges and the Registrar General, library hall, two record rooms, two conference rooms, one room for Advocate General, canteen, dispensary, bank, barn council which would post office facility and a multipurpose hall.
The High Court building was designed with the approval of Guwahati High Court.
The High Court building has separate provisions of ramp, lift and toilets for disabled persons.
Housing component of the building has seven bungalows for Judges, two quarters for Registrar and four quarters for private secretaries.
The other components include security barrack, seven security towers, eight rooms for security kiosk drivers, parking lots for ten vehicles, two-wheeler and cycle park, power house and quarters for Chowkidar.
Infrastructure installed at the building include sewerage treatment plant, underground water reservoir of 1,50,000 litres capacity, overground reservoir of 75,000 litres capacity and fire fighting systems.
According to an official of Public Works Department, both outside and local labourers were engaged by M/S Simplex Infrastructure Limited in constructing the building.
