Imphal, April 28 2012:
A violent rain storm that swept across Thoubal this morning left a trail of destruction as many houses, schools, workshops and other structures were razed to the ground.
The storm that lasted for about 15 minutes blew away the roofs of eight shops which were part of the new Thoubal Market.
Incidentally, the new market complex was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi on December 24 last year.
However, vendors or shopkeepers have not yet shifted to the new market complex.
A rented house belonging to one Waikhom Jiten was also razed to the ground as the house collapsed over the owner.
The house was built beside Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School.
Even as the house collapsed over Jiten, his injuries were not critical.
Panthoibi Automobile Workshop located in front of Thoubal police station was also blown away completely, damaging many vehicles kept in the workshop.
Roof-tops of one Sanasam Bishwanath and Haobijam Robindro of Thoubal Mela Ground were also blown away.
Likewise, roof-tops of many other houses, schools and structures were either damaged or blown in different localities of Thoubal proper.
The violent rainstorm also snapped branches of many trees growing inside the Thoubal DC office complex.
Some other trees were uprooted completely.
However, there is no report of any human casualty.
