Imphal, June 26 2011:
Irong Khunou in Wabagai A/C an island like village situated at the border of Imphal West and Thoubal district surrounded by Imphal River and Thoubal River is still in the stone-age era at a distance of only 22 km from Imphal.
The matter came to light when a team of reporters went there to take stock of the situation there.
To their surprise they found the only road which connects the village with the rest of the world is in a deplorable condition with mud at knee deep level.
Moreover the suspension bridge at Mutum Phibou which connects the village with Laxmi Bazar is also in a pitiable condition.
People of the village have not been getting safe drinking water and regular electricity since the past few decades.
With all these inconveniences, people of the village are facing many hardships in their daily life.
Although the village has one Primary Health Sub Centre, it is not functioning.
Villagers appealed to the state government to repair the suspension bridge and make it pliable in order to relieve some of the inconveniences being faced by them.
The PHSC in the village is in a rented house and they appealed to the authority to construct a separate building for the PHSC and to make it truly functional.
They also appealed to upgrade the Primary school in the village to a Junior HS level.
They also appealed to compensate the landowners who were affected by the construction of a RCC bridge which connects the village with Lilong and Sekmaijin.
