CM negates BP 81 shifting report

Chief Minister N Biren Singh today clarified on the floor of the Manipur Legislative Assembly that there is no fresh erection of border pillar No 81 and there is no shifting of the border pillar.
The recent issue is over the subsidiary pillar between the main Border pillar No.80 and 81.As the people have apprehension regarding the alleged shifting of border pillar no 81, the State Government had urged the Central Government for resurvey/re-demarcation.
He was replying to a call attention motion moved by Opposition MLA K Meghachandra Singh on the reported dispute regarding Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar No 81.A team from the Ministry of External Affairs will be arriving for an on the spot verification of Border Pillar no.81 at Kwatha Khunou on July 24 .
The Chief Minister appealed to all concerned including political parties, civil society organisations, stakeholders and local people of Kwatha Khunou to stand united and give co-operation in solving the alleged border pillar dispute.
Replying to another call attention motion raised MLAs K Govindas and K.Ranjit Singh on the demand for removal of the Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof AP Pandey and the resultant protracted crisis, Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed the House that the Govt is concerned over the matter and will try hard for justice.
Stating that the HRD Ministry has already constituted an enquiry committee led by a retired Chief Justice of a High Court, the leader of the House appealed to the enquiry committee to start its work.
During the enquiry period, the Govt will find a means to resume normal functioning of the University.
He requested all to refrain from publishing and spreading baseless news.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar clarified that he never told MUSU that Prof Pandey's claim of a UG group serving a monetary demand of Rs 5 crore to him was fabricated.
The call attention motion on MU crisis was later converted as a short duration discussion with due permission of the Speaker.
Raising the motion, K Govindas said that 46 colleges have closed and 15800 students have been awaiting results after giving 6th semester examinations.
He went on to ask, "How important is Mr Pandey.
Is he more important than our future?" .
He further asked if the Chief Minister was speaking on behalf of the VC when he (CM) stated that a UG group served a monetary demand of Rs 5 crore to the VC or whether the particular claim was aimed at projecting the people as hostile.
Govindas proposed the State Assembly to adopt a resolution on the MU crisis and send it to the Union HRD Ministry.
K Ranjit decried that Prof Pandey has no intention to resolve the crisis through negotiation.
After issuing due notification for appointment of Registrar and Librarian, the VC slept over the matter.
Instead, in-charge Registrar and in-charge Librarian were appointed, Ranjit said.
The demand for an independent enquiry is still kept at bay.
The fact finding committee set up by the HRD Ministry is more like a departmental enquiry, he remarked.
He too suggested the House to adopt a resolution for dismissal of Prof Pandey, enquiry by an independent body and appointment of an ad-hoc in-charge VC, and send the same resolution to the Government of India.
Responding to the motion, Chief Minister N Biren stated that they have been working very hard to resolve the MU crisis.
Many people posted in social media that VC Prof Pandey is very close to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister but National leaders like the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister will never act in their personal interest, and they will see that justice is done to all public issues, Biren stated.
Stating that the university, students and teachers are far more important, Biren appealed to all the House Members to give the Government a chance.
