Imphal, May 22 2018:
National Sports University Registrar K Radhakumar has claimed that there is no plan to shift away National Sports University (the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself) from Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at the university's administrative block at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex Olympic Bhawan today, Radhakumar said that a Bill regarding the university may be passed during the monsoon session of Parliament or an ordnance may be enforced before the Parliament session.
Stating that the university is currently being operated by National Sports University Society, he explained that a Bill had been tabled in the previous Parliamentary session as the university needs to be run under an Act.
There are certain provisions for establishing some outside campuses as per the memorandum of association of the society but there is no plan to shift the university from the State, he clarified.
One Vice Chancellor, one Registrar, one Controller and a Librarian will be in Imphal while other lower posts will be stationed at the outside campuses, he explained.
Necessary steps would be taken up as per the provisions of the University's Act and without proper analysis of the Act, it would be too early to comment, the Registrar said and added that the university already has its own 325 acres of land.
Around 23 students have already started sports training and physical education courses as the first batch of the university and soon, sports psychology will also be added.
Sports journalism, sports management and sports performance analysis diploma courses will be available at the outside campuses, similar to numerous universities which have outside campuses at other places, Radhakumar explained.
The Sports Ministry has already selected Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited, a Central Government undertaking based in Kolkata, as the work agency and fencing of the Sports University has already started under Sadguru Engineering which is based at Guwahati, he added.
