Man shot dead

Imphal, November 20 2017:
Despite strict security measures taken up by the State police to prevent any unwanted incident ahead of the Manipur Sangai tourism festival starting from tomorrow, unidentified individuals suspected to be underground militants, shot dead one non local at Liwa Lambi near Catholic School Chanchipur, under Singjamei police station, today evening.
According to the locals, the incident occurred between 6.30 and 7 pm, while the area was experiencing an electricity outage.
The locals pointed out that the deceased had gone out of his rented room alone a few minutes before the incident and was found dead with a bullet injury on his forehead, right in front of the entrance gate of the rent house.
Locals identified the deceased non local as Murali Thakur (41) s/o Vidneshvari Thakur of Behariganj Bihar.
The deceased has been staying at Liwa Lambi for the last 20 years and ran a canteen at Catholic School Canchipur.
They also pointed out that the deceased had returned to Manipur only a few weeks back after attending a ritual for his son who had died a month back at Bihar.
Soon after the incident, the locals and the rent owner informed the police.
A team of Imphal West district police led by Senior SP, Themthing Ngasangva rushed to the spot and inspected the incident site as well as the surrounding area.
Later the body was picked up by a team of Singjamei police station, after the inquest of the body and the surround-ing area by the State forensic expert team, and deposited at RIMS morgue.
