Imphal, June 18 2016 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur
(DESAM) has slammed the Manipur University Vice-Chancel-
lor Prof HNK Sarma for alleged flouting of rules regarding
recruitment of peon in MU.
In a statement, the general secretary of
DESAM stated that according to MHRD notification No C-34013/
16/2015, the heads of institution/organisations cannot conduct
selections few months before they conclude their term in office and
the MU VC is just two months away from retirement and he should
stay away from any recruitment process in MU.
Moreover, the ad-
vertisement for the recruitment of peon came out in 2009 and there
is a rule which states that any recruitment process must be com-
pleted within 18 months from the date of notification and in this
case, it is almost 7 years.
1695 candidates were selected as eligible
to face interview from those who submitted forms before January
23, 2010 and a new notification appeared on May 26, 2016 to newly
apply for the said post and 268 candidates were declared eligible to
face the interview, thereby scuttling the rights of the earlier eligible
1695 candidates.
The VC should desist from activities which is
against the rule and DESAM will not remain silent regarding the
matter, the statement added .
