Imphal, June 18 2016 :
The BJP Manipur Pradesh has urged the Governor to look into the matter pertaining to alleged gross violation of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) rules in the election of Deputy Mayor and take up Constitutional measures to set straight the wrong.
In this regard the BJP submitted a memorandum to the Governor yesterday.
In the memo, the BJP highlighted that the DC of Imphal West conducted the election of Mayor and Dy Mayor of IMC in his office chamber despite protest lodged by the BJP Corporators.
The election notification of Mayor and Dy Mayor was supposed to be issued in two notifications.
However, contradicting all these laws, the DC had issued the two election notices in a single notification.
It was conducted in the most unsavoury process that anyone who embraces the ethics of democracy would not subscribe to.
The manipulative ploy became clearer when the DC conducted the Dy Mayor election in a ridiculous manner.
The DC bulldozed his way by conducting the election in a short duration of around four hours, it alleged.
The nomination, withdrawal, scrutiny, election and declaration of result were conducted in a single day, it pointed out while adding that it was unethical.
The Manipur Municipalities (10th Amendment), 2016 in its rule No 12 F has clearly mentioned the mode of the election of Dy Mayor.
As such, it urged the Governor to intervene and do the needful at the earliest.
