Imphal, April 17 2016:
The JAC constituted against the rape and sexual harrasment meted out to a 25-year-old woman has threatened to launch an intense agitation if the Government fails to take action against the culprit and his accomplices within two days.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, JAC convenor Md Harun said that Md Hassan from Kolkata runs a car workshop at Hatta Cemetery road.
After he married a Meitei Pangal woman from Hatta, he requested his mother-in-law to keep his wife's 25-year-old sister in his house taking advantage of the family's financial weakness.
The JAC convenor alleged that Md Hassan promised his mother-in-law that he would keep his wife's sister as his own daughter.
However, instead of giving her fatherly care, Md Hassan repeatedly raped the woman, the JAC convenor said.
After the helpless woman became pregnant, Md Hassan took her and his wife to Kolkata.
On January 31 last year, the woman gave birth a baby girl at a hospital there, Md Harun said.
He further alleged that instead of rising up the baby as his daughter, Md Hassan sold the baby to somebody and threatened his wife and the woman not to disclose the matter to anybody.
Although, Md Hassan did not allow both the sisters to move out of his house, the younger sister fled the house and reached Imphal some time back, he said.
After the woman narrated her ordeal, Hatta locals formed a JAC against the sexual harrasment.
Although, Hassan's family members agreed to resolve the matter with the JAC by conducting a meeting at 3 pm on April 16, they did not turn up on the day.
When JAC members went to meet the family of Md Hassan, they not only created a scene but also tried to attack them with the help of their accomplices, the JAC convenor said.
As such, the JAC would launch an agitation against the ill treatment and sexual harrasment meted out to the woman if action is not taken by the authority concerned against Md Hassan and his accomplices.
