If one has to assume that Rs 10 is required to feed oneself daily at the least, then it becomes simple Arithmetic that he or she would require Rs 300 to spend on food for survival in a month.
But believe it or not, there is a hostel in Manipur which is being run with just Rs 400 as fee for mess in a year for one person.
The hostel in question, which everybody may be wondering on its management, is located in Kachai village of Ukhrul district.
Run jointly by S Mataishang and his wife Mingthingla, the Alfa Christian English School, a private school in Kachai village, has classes from nursery to X.Majority of the students studying in the school stay in hostel.
From each of these students/hostellers, only Rs 600 is charged as hostel fee while the fee for mess is only Rs 400 in a year, founder of the institute S Mataishang disclosed while talking to The Sangai Express.
He further said that the institute is being run and managed without any assistance from others.
Located within the campus of the school, there is separate hostels for boys and girls and four wardens to look after them.
In addition, there is separate kitchens where the students can cook and prepare dishes of their liking.
But vegetables, meats and other essential items required for cooking is provided by the institute from the mess fee of Rs 400 charged from each hosteller, Mataishang said.
In response to a question, Mataishang explained that from the mess fee collected from the hostellers, all the required ration for one whole year is procured and stocked up.
In case of shortage, the institute makes arrangement for feeding the hostellers free of cost.
The school at Kachai village may not have the kind of infrastructures that private schools in other parts of the State have, but most of the students are not just smart but also very discipline.
The institute, which is co-educational, has 17 teachers who are trying their level best to impart quality education to around 481 students.
After the institute was recognised by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur in 2007, 33 students passed in the Board examination last year out of 34 students who have given the examination.
The remaining one student had come in the compartment.
In the Board examination this time, in all 64 students have appeared from the school.
