SOP violators pulled up

Imphal, May 02 2021:
Imphal West took the lead today in the number of SOP violators detained by the police with 147 violators closely followed by Thoubal with 125 .
The Police Department collected a sum of Rs 81,600/- (eighty one thousand and six hundred only) as fines from 282 SOP violators today.
Altogether Thoubal district accounted for 64,363 SOP violators out of the 1,37,051 violators detained in connection with SOP violation by the police till today, while Imphal West and Bishnupur has 23,869 and 21,496 number respectively.
The Police Department continued the crack down on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic, including failure to wear mask in public places, failure to maintain social distancing in public places, spitting in public places, etc.
to prevent the spread of COVID-19 .
The Police Department warned that those who violate the SOP shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
In total, the Police Department has collected a sum of Rs 1,92,36,370/- (One crore, ninety two lakh, thirty six thousand, three hundred seventy only) as of today.
Despite the increase in penalty for SOP violators, the public continue to break the guidelines.
