Imphal, March 27 2012:
Following a directive from the Government of India, half of the total 80 MW of power required inside Raj Bhavan complex has been switched over to green energy (solar energy) .
Apart from it, a solar hot water plant, which has a capacity of 2000 litres, has also been installed inside the complex, said an official source.
Government of India under its Special Area Development Programme is planning to switch to green energy at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Raj Bhavans of all the States, it added.
The source further said that Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) has recently installed a 40 MW solar energy power plant and a 2000 litre capacity hot water plant inside Raj Bhavan complex.
Apart from installation of 20 high intensity LED street lamps, the agency has also kept a battery operational vehicle which can carry four persons inside the complex.
As the newly installed solar energy power plant feeds regular power supply to Raj Bhavan, UPS may not be required for the use of computers by Raj Bhavan staff.
