Mantak village is a Model Drug Free village

Kakching Mantak village in Chandel district, which does not have a single drug or intoxicant user, was honoured with the title Model Drug Free Village by the All Manipur Anti Drugs Association (AMADA) in a function held at the village today in relation with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
AMADA also conferred its annual awards 'The Marvel' and 'Athouba' to the village.
The title was accompanied by ' 5000 cash, a certificate and a memento.
Speaking in the occasion, organisation secretary, AMADA, K Meghachandra said that Mantak village was once a village where local liquor was produced in a widescale manner.
There were also many drunkards and drug and substance abusers in the village.
To everyone's surprise, now not a single intoxicant user or drug abuser is found in the village.
The village authority took a decision to stop producing liquor and to stop drug abuse on June 9, 1992 .
Since then everyone in the village has abstained from using intoxicants.
Even Khaini, pan, Zarda, Talab and other kinds of intoxicants are not to be found in the village.
Recognising their effort to eradicate drugs and intoxicants from their soil, AMADA is giving its 5th annual 'Athouba' Award to the village, Meghachandra added.
President, AMADA, M Padmani Leima graced the function as chief guest.
She urged the people of the state to follow the way of Mantak.
Chairman, Mantak Vilage Auhtoriry K Ningthem Kom presided over the function.
Secretary, Mantak Village Authority Karem Cheiraojao Kom attended as guest of honour.
