Imphal, May 26 2015 :
School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) of a primary school of Thoubal has accused the ZEO Thoubal of swindling Rs 10 lakh sanctioned for construction of school buildings in cahoot with subordinate officers.
Speaking to media persons at Khangabok Part-III Leipat Leikai this morning, SMDC member Khundrakpam Shyam alleged that ZEO Thoubal Kh Amuba, SSA Thoubal District Project Manager P Sukumar and AI O Joykumar formed a fictitious SMDC on the table and withdrew Rs 10 lakh on February 6 last year out of Rs 15.68 lakh sanctioned for construction of two classrooms and separate toilets for boys and girls.
As there was no vacant land, a committee was constituted and a plot was purchased at Rs three lakh for establishment of a school.
As the committee started its activities in full swing, it was learnt that Rs 10 lakh meant for the school has been swindled.
The existing SMDC was given recognition by the Government in August last year.
But the ZEO is yet to release any amount to the SMDC till date.
As such, construction of the school building remains incomplete, Shyam said.
In connection with the issue, a public meeting was held recently.
In the meantime, a complaint has been lodged with Chief Minister O Ibobi, MLA O Landhoni and the Thoubal DC.
Shyam appealed to the Chief Minister, the Education Minister and the Thoubal DC to recuperate the swindled amount of Rs 10 lakh from the ZEO and his cohorts, and release the same amount to the SMDC so that the incomplete school building can be completed.
