Science Meet 2016 concludes

A five-day long State level science festival 'Science Meet-2016' organized by the Manipur Science and Technology Council, Imphal and National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Akampat, has concluded today.
The Science Meet-2016 was held under the theme 'Make in India: S&T driven Innovations' from May 11 at NIELIT, Akampat.
The main features of the programme were Science Model Exhibition-cum-Competition, Science Short Play Competition, Spot Painting Competition, Declamation Contest, Science Quiz Competition, Best Guide Teacher Award, Best Appreciation Award, Science Film Show, Science Behind Miracle Show, Puppet Show, Book Exhibition, IT Show etc.
Special Secy (S&T), Govt of Manipur H Gayan Prakash, Executive Director, NIELIT T Prameshwor, Director of Manipur Science and Technology Council Th Surendranath and Joint Director NIELIT T Gunindro were dignitaries during the closing cum prize distribution function.
As part of the function, Dr Ibeyaima Innovation Award 2016 was conferred to Maibam Deben Singh of Kangleipak Fish Drier, Singjamei Chingamakha lrom Leirak for his innovative product "Meital Leirang" .
The award carried a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a citation and memento donated by the Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC), Ontario, Canada, in memory of its member (L) Dr Hijam Ibeyaima Devi.
Meanwhile, a book titled 'Nutrients for the Youth', written by Prof N Rajmuhon Singh was also released during the programme.
Rajmuhon said the book was published to popularize the importance of science among the youth of Manipur.
He added that various other books were earlier published depicting eminent scientists and scholars.
He further emphasized on the increasing need to produce young and energetic scientists from the State.
Pitambara English School represented by Bonishkumar Laishram and Monikasana bagged the first position of Science Model Competition for their model 'Water Pump Energy' while Praja High School Lamshang represented by Chingangbam Roshini Devi and Chingangbam Sharita Devi received second prize for the model 'Do Decahedron' and Bishnupur Public School represented by Leishangthem Romesh and Khomdram Ranjan bagged the third prize for the model 'Metal Detector' .
The Best Guide Teacher Award was conferred to Tourangbam Jameson of Pitambara English School, Kwakeithel while the Best Appreciation Award was conferred to Khomdram Ranjan of Bishnupur Public School.
In the Science Short Play competition, Kalpana Konthoujam and team (Brighter Academy, Khumbong) bagged the first position while Moirangthem Pangganba Meitei and team (SCM Boarding English School, Imphal) and Sobhajit Okram and team (Ananda Purna School, Thoubal) bagged the second and third position respectively.
For the Spot Painting Competition in sub-junior group, Onia Konsam of Nongpok Maheikol, Gurjas Kaur of UNACCO School and Martin Tongbram of Pitambara English School won the first, second and third position respectively.
In the junior group, Telen Khaidem of DAV Public School, Reynold Athokpam of ST George High School and Laiphrakpam Boshni of Regular English High School won the first, second and third position.
In senior group Malemnganba Waikhom of Shishu Nitha Niketan, AK Prasanta Meitei of Mother's Pride Academy and Keisham Yoihenbi Chanu of Mega Manipur School won the first, second and third position.
Riddhi Puyam of Maria Montessori Sr Secondary School bagged the first position while Yoihenba Huidrom of Maria Montessori Sr Secondary School and Vishal Nair of Kendra Vidyalaya, Loktak were the winners of the Declamation Contest, .
Wahengbam Rebecca Devi and Binoty Laishram of Bishnupur Public School bagged the first position in the Science Quiz competition, Geo Thoudam and Gurumayum Dijen Sharma of UNACCO School bagged the second position while Thiyam Meghabarna Singh and Nilakanta Chanambam of JNV, Khumbong bagged the third position.
