AR troops seize illegal items

Imphal, May 15 2016:
Troops of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) seized arms, ammunition and contraband items during a search operation conducted at Songphel in Senapati district yesterday.
A man identified as Lelin Khongsai of Songphel village was apprehended along with these items, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
The seized items were one 7.62 mm pistol (country made), one 7 mm air rifle (country made), manufacturing spats metal burner, barrel drilling machine and other weapons equipment, electric wire bundle, 19 fired case cartridges (FCC) of 7.62 mm, 60 fired case cartridges (FCC) of SBBL gun, three rifle barrels, 16 spare batteries, weapon butt of SBBL gun, six mobile phones without battery and SIM cards, 211 kgs of Ganja, 450 grams of opium and other incriminating articles.
The recovered items have been handed over to Litan police station.
On the other hand, troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) established a vehicle check post at Wamku in Chandel district and recovered Ginseng weighing around 854.1 kg worth Rs 51,24,600 on May 13 .
Two persons who came in a Tata truck suddenly stopped the vehicle on seeing the AR troops and escaped in a nearby jungle.
Assam Rifles personnel chased them but taking advantage of heavy rain and thick undergrowth, they managed to escape through the dense vegetation and thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the Ginseng.
The recovered item has been handed over to Range Forest Officer, Tengnoupal, Government of Manipur, added the press release.
