Lamka, July 08 2011:
The United Chief Committee has rejected State Government's order replacing village Chiefs as Chairperson of the Government run schools with that of the local MDCs on the ground that it is arbitrary in nature and challenging the institutional tribal chieftainship, reports our Churachandpur Correspondent.
"The order intended to dislodge the power, administration and institution of tribal chiefs in their local administration", UCC said.
It is also an attempt to restrict and curtail the rights and authorities of the tribal Chiefs in their local administration a discreet attempt to strain relationship between the MDCs and the village Chiefs and an insult to the people as it seeks to project an elected representative at par with a village school, it alleged.
UCC requested all concerned officials not to implement the order but to ensure that the nomenclature and composition of school management is re-established in the form of VEC.
In the midst of unfathomable State sponsored hidden policies, in the guise of development that took various forms and shades the chiefs committee sought co-operation from every citizen in the fight for the survival of tribal, their rights and freedom and pursue the path to preserve the rich tribal culture, customs, tradition and age old administration, it added.
