ZSUM calls off stir

The Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has 'for the time being' called off its proposed 48-hour total bandh to be followed by indefinite economic blockade and ban on construction of trans-international railway project from July 5 .
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of ZSUM, D Stephen Zeme, the students' body has been suspending its proposed bandh and economic blockade following 'some sort of verbal understanding' reached between the ZSUM and Works Minister, along with MLA of Tamei during a meeting of the two entities.
However, the final round of the talk would be held on July 23.Hence, the suspension of the stirs for the time being till the final round of talk is held, the statement said.
On various demands pertaining to termination of some allegedly incompetent, corrupt and derelict PWD officials, completion of construction of bailey bridge across Barak river and immediate release of fund for the construction, the ZSUM had served an ultimatum to the Governor on June 19 .
