Nepal extends solidarity to struggle against AFSPA

The Nepalese Law Students' Association (NELSA) and the Institute of Human Rights and Democracy- Nepal (IHRDN) have organised a panel discussion on "Deceit of Democracy : Irom Sharmila's 16 years of hunger strike against Armed Forces Special Powers Act" at Nepal Law Capmus, Bhrikutimandap yesterday.
Sushil Pyakurel, human rights advisor to the President of Nepal, recounted his personal meeting with Irom Sharmila during his visit to Manipur in 2014 .
Babloo Loitongbam, director, Human Rights Alert, highlighted the struggle for right to life by the people of Manipur.
A short film "Claiming Justice : Women confronting impunity in India's North East" was also screened.
Eminent human rights activist Subodh Pyakurel who is also the former chaiperson of Forum Asia explained the emerging geo-politic trends of South Asia.
According to him, India plays an important dominant role among the South Asian countries in the field of politics.
Therefore, it has become a legitimate concern of the citizens of the South Asian countries to see how the Indian Government is upholding its human rights obligations.
He called upon the gathering and Nepalese civil societies to support the righteous struggle of Irom Sharmila.
Human rights lawyer Dinesh Tripathi prolonged violation of human rights in India has become a matter of concern for all the people around the world.
