Langol-Heingang ropeway on the anvil

With a view to promote tourism in the State and enable tourists enjoy a panoramic view of Imphal city, detailed project report has been already prepared and tender process is nearing completion for construction of a ropeway from Langol Hills to Marjing Hills, announced Chief Minister N Biren in the State Assembly today who is also in charge of Tourism Department.
Saying that all the observations and suggestions made by Opposition Members in the course of discussing the demand pertaining to Tourism Department have been noted, Biren informed that the Government has prioritised certain areas and necessary actions have been initiated so as to boost tourism sector in the State.
Tender process for construction of a ropeway from Langol Hills to Marjing Hills, Heingang is on the verge of completion and the same would be implemented by Manipur Police Housing Corporation.
The processes of land survey and acquisition necessary for forest areas have been completed.
The ropeway would connect the top of Langol Hills with top of Marjing Hills where a 150 feet high statue of Polo is being constructed, Biren stated.
Even though there are certain controversies and contestations over the claim that the game of Polo originated from Manipur, the whole world has accepted that modern Polo began from Manipur, said the Chief Minister.
Certain amount has been earmarked in the State for protection and preservation of the rare Shirui Lily and Rs 7.5 crore has been incorporated in the budget for development of Kangkhui Cave as a tourist spot, Biren informed the House.
Noting that golf is a popular sport among tourists, Biren stated that 400 acres have been reserved near Loktak Lake for development of a golf course.
The Government has been paying special attention towards development of Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao National Park as major tourist destinations, said the Chief Minister.
Talkng about rehabilitation, Biren said that the State Government would not wait for Central sponsored schemes when it comes to drugs, AIDS and other such issues which demand rehabilitation.
The Government would take up necessary measures from its own resources in order to save the youngsters, Biren asserted.
He pledged that the Government would work to complete incomplete dams which were constructed at proper places on priority basis, and the officials concerned have been instructed not to take up new schemes.
