Locals protest UG threat

Along with staging a sit-in-protest yesterday against alleged threat to a family residing in Keibi Heikak Mapal by cadres of the armed Military Defence Force (MDF) a public meeting has decided to prohibit entry of strangers into the village from 7 pm till dawn.
It is informed that two armed persons, who identified themselves as activists of the armed outfit, came asking for one Nepram Yaima (38) of Keibi Heikak Mapal on September 16 night.
Yaima is said to be a public relations officer of Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwor Singh.
On being told by Yaima's mother Dayabati that her second son was not a home the two unidentified persons using strong words insisted that Yaima's wife be produced before them.
One of the youth whipped out a small arm and tried to open fire at Dayabati but due to jamming of the weapon it failed consequently leading to swift congregation of a large number of people, including meira paibis, who were assembled at a nearby public shed close to Yaima's residence.
As the two youths fled from the scene upon seeing the people heading to the house a hot chase ensued resulting in overpowering one of them at near Khabam Hiden Water Supply
Scheme.
The apprehended youth hailing from the nearby Sekta Mayai Leikai and identified as Phijam Khamba (32) s/o Kokchao has been consequently handed over to a team of Imphal East district police commando along with a pistol and six live rounds recovered from his possession.
Police confirmed Khamba as a cadre of the MDF organisation.
In denunciation of the threat and misconduct of the two the protest demonstration cum public meeting was held at Keibi Heikak Mapal Awang Leikai yesterday.
