CM recalls 'change driver' call during days in Cong

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the people of the State not to forget his constant demand for a change in the leadership of the Congress in the past, while he was still in the party, as he could not bear to see the people suffering under the then Government.
The CM made the statement during a felicitation programme which was organised by BJP Imphal East and BJP Andro Block at Thambalnu market complex in connection with him being awarded the best CM in the BJP ruled States and the 3rd best CM of the country.
Speaking at the event, he claimed that he has always aimed to change the trend of politicians promising one thing before the elections and doing another after the election and added that the people should not forget how he often demanded for a change in the 'driver' or the leader of the Congress party while he was in the party, after witnessing the suffering of the people under the Congress Government.
The strained and tense relationship between the people and the police was also a result of the political leader's actions, he added.
On the other hand, N Biren claimed that his BJP Government brought up the Liquor Bill with the aim of exporting all the liquor from the State as the same liqour is responsible for many women becoming widows, apart from destroying hundreds of families in the State.
The Bill was proposed after careful consideration and deliberation with the aim of maintaining quality and preventing reckless manufacture of liquor in the State but it was opposed by some parties, the CM said and added that the State Government will try and work out the differences with the said parties to come to an amicable solution and improve the condition of the State.
Claiming that the present State Government has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the people, Biren informed that most of the river bed cleaning works of Imphal river are finished and the Imphal-Jiribam route has been properly repaired.
The Government is for the people, he said, adding that six of the seven Ima markets in 7 districts of the State, including Jiribam, have been inaugurated.
The State Government has even urged the Central Government to provide necessary support for the creation of 10 more markets, he added.
Biren continued that the Government already has plans to ensure availability of drinking water at every households of the State and added that the work will require around Rs 2600 crore to be properly implemented.
The DPR has already been sent and the Government has been informed that the Finance Committee will discuss the proposal tomorrow, Biren added.
The Chief Minister further claimed that necessary preparations have been made for the construction of two fly overs (totalling 28 kilometres in length) in the State, construction of a ring road in Imphal as well as development of Imphal-Yairipok road.
On the other hand, he accused the past Congress Government of various scandals like the CCTV installation scam, the police belt case as well as the lack of development in hill districts.
Works Minister Th Biswajit, Education Minister Th Radheshyam, MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar and BJP State unit spokesperson Ch Bijoy also spoke at the event.
