State unit president of Trinamool Congress has called upon the womenfolk to rise above parochialism and strive to promote and work for the betterment of womenfolk rather another spew venom at one another that could never propel the society towards development.
Addressing the gathering at a seminar on 'Women's Empowerment for development and Progress' organised by Leimatak, Loktak Area Youth Development at Sailen Khopi community hall in Leimatak today, the former Lok Sabha MP expressed that inspite of the womenfolk endowed with various capabilities by the almighty discriminatory attitude against one another would only dilute the natural gift and incapacitate them.
Stating that the womenfolk are blessed with the qualities of tolerance, peacefulness and propriety among other characteristics, Kim Gangte said such endowments should be translated to empower the women and include them in decision-making bodies to achieve overall development and progress of the society.
Exhorting the women present at the seminar to not only limit their role as home-makers and confine themselves within the four walls of the house, she stressed on the need for the womenfolk to take active role in politics in order to establish a peaceful and progressive society.
Describing as embarrassing the Chief Minister of Manipur holding additional charge as the Tribal Development Minister as responsibilities of the said post could be efficiently executed by the tribal legislators, Kim Gangte also accused the SPF Government of neglecting development of the hill areas.
Observing that absence of infrastructure development in the hills had been jeopardising future of the hill people, she asserted that such partiality on the part of the Government is an important factor for people in the hill areas to feel alienated.
MSW College Principal Dr Romibala, who also spoke at the occasion opined that lack of support from the peers to women candidates during elections is a cause for strain in the relationships between the womenfolk.
She also called upon the gathering to lend support to women candidates as well as to encourage the women join politics for attaining the goal of women empowerment.
Among others, ADC Member Thangkhomang Haokip also deliberated on the seminar theme.
