Imphal, December 30 2014:
Students of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today staged a sit-in protest against the allotment of PG seats to students who have been studying outside RIMS.
Altogether there are 139 PG seats in RIMS out of which 50 percent is reserved as all India quota.
From the remaining 50 percent, 7 seats each are reserved for the North Eastern States.
Apart from 7 seats reserved for students sponsored by RIMS, there are 2 seats each for the North Eastern States in open category.
However, the 7 seats reserved for students sponsored by RIMS have been cancelled and it has created a situation where RIMS students may lose 5 PG seats this academic year.
It was against this grim prospect that students and former students of the medical institute staged a protest demonstration today.
One of the protesters said that the 5 PG seats allotted to non-RIMS students should be opened to RIMS students.
The protesters urged RIMS authority to rectify the alleged anomaly in PG seats allocation.
