Assam Rifles assists in Assembly polls

Assam Rifles provided assistance to the state government in maintaining security during the polling of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, besides providing environmental security, the force also assisted in induction of security personnel to far flung places of the state.
In one of the incident which took place during the course of polling at Tampi in Chandel district, one NSCN (IM) cadre opened fire and killed four polling officials and one CRPF jawan while causing injury to another civilian named R Anal Singh of Chandel Christian village.
Assam Rifles mobilized its resources to evacuate the injured by Helicopter to Kangla for further evacuation to RIMS.
The individual, however, could not survive the gun-shot wound, the PRO added.
In another incident, troops of 42 Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (IM) cadre along with an OGW and recovered one 9 mm pistol, four live rounds, one hand grenade and one fire case from their possession.
The arrested NSCN (IM) cadre was reportedly involved in firing at the village chief in Kairang Khullen on January 27. In yet another incident, troops of 15 Assam Rifles apprehended two KCP cadres along with one 9 mm pistol and three live rounds from Top Chingtha.
They were trying to disrupt polling, the statement of the PRO Assam Rifles said.
