Under the Civic Action Programme of the Border Security force, Sham Kapoor Commandant 88 Bn BSF inaugurated a women's welfare centre at Yairipok today.
The Commandant presented 10 sewing machines to the local women to assist them supplement their income source for a secured livelihood.
Moreover for recreational purpose as well as enhance awareness of the women folk a colour television set was also handed over during the programme.
It is pertinent to mention that one such welfare centre was gifted by the BSF to the people of Wangjing Tekcham the previous week with DIG (BSF) GK Sharma inaugurating the facility.
In his speech during the Yairipok programme, Sham Kapoor described the gesture as a small step towards the long journey of social welfare that the BSF aims to take.
Expressing satisfaction at the overwhelming response of the civilians towards the BSF endeavour which he opined would motivate the para-military force establishment to expand similar welfare schemes to other areas, the Commandant also acknowledged needs and aspirations of the civil population while asserting that the BSF is committed to reach out its hands whenever and wherever required.
A colourful cultural programme was organised by the local citizens as a mark of appreciation to the BSF whose concern, attitude and conduct also evoked warm response from the Yairipok populace.
