Imphal, February 21 2016 :
Andro villagers would develop the sacred place of Nongpok Ningthou as a tourist site from this year, said Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar.
The place which is also known as Chingoi Baruni Mahadeva would be given a new name as 'Manipur View' for tourists, he said and added that around 300 Andro villagers have already begun cleaning of jungles, plantation of saplings and gardening.
Saying that the area would be developed as a favourite tourist destination, Th Shyamkumar said that the sacred place has been given the new name as tourists would be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole State from this point.
For the convenience of tourists and visitors, passenger services from Imphal to Khalong Mahadeva would be introduced from April this year, the MLA said.
Saying that a passenger service from Andro would also be there, Th Shyamkumar said that necessary efforts would be put in to enhance the economy of the State by promoting tourism.
Informing that no aid/help has been received from the side of the Government for the said project so far, the MLA expressed hope that Government aid would automatically pour in once the endeavour is successful.
He said that Andro villagers have destroyed the poppy plants which were found planted near the sacred place of Nongpok Ningthou.
He said that no deforestation and plantation of poppy plants would be allowed at Nongmaiching hill of Andro AC.
Those who defy this resolution would be penalised under the customary law of Andro village, he said.
