Ukhrul, May 11 2009:
In the backdrop of the irregularities in taking classes and lack of infrastructures despite its repeated appraisal to the concerned authority, ITI Trainees Union closed down the institute indefinitely from today.
Talking to The Sangai Express, union president Eno Rinmaya Kasomwoshi said that in this modern computer age where technology has been emphasised everywhere, ITI centre Ukhrul is plagued with the lack required of equipment and infrastructures due to the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government.
Alleging the attitude of the present Government as double standard, Ramayo further asserted that the Government is hoodwinking the people of the district by erecting a soulless institute building.
He further said that as the center does not have its principal, technical superintendent, clerk, workshop attendant and social studies instructor, ITI Ukhrul is no less than a headless body.
He said that trainees have not yet been given stipends till today which according to him (Ramayo) is against the guidelines of ITI.
Moreover, the union further said that equipments are only gathering rust in the institute.
Computers have not yet been started using, and it comes out to be used ones while checking it, the union alleged.
Retaining wall and new hostel construction do not have foundation, and the premix flooring has started pocking-out before completion, it added.
The union informed that in addition to the meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, a memorandum had also been submitted to the concerned Minister in this connection.
However, the union does not get any positive reply, it lamented.
ITI Ukhrul was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on May 21, 2008 with a promise to make a model center by introducing 10 trades at the initial stage.
However, classes are currently being taken for only three trades ie carpentry, steno and wireman leaving other trades ie IT, welter, filter motor mechanic, food preserver, hair and skin care and electronic, it informed.
At present, there are 160 students in this center with each class having 16 students and 12 students in welter trade.
Meanwhile, HKL (Ukhrul Students Union), Kasom Tang Youth Organization and Hunphun Youth Front have extended their support in the ongoing indefinite agitation.
The bodies warned that any untoward incident arising out of the situation will be responsible by the concerned authority.
