Imphal, August 22 2012:
Manipur-bound fuel tankers are reportedly stranded in Numaligarh of Assam due to the ongoing stand-off between people of Golaghat in Assam and Nagaland's Wokha district.
Decrying alleged encroachment on Assam land in Golaghat district area by people of Wokha district, student and civil society organisations of Assam had been imposing blockade on all the routes connecting Wokha from Assam side.
As the blockade also covers the highway that leads to Manipur, oil tankers that left for Tinsukia are said to be currently stranded in Numaligarh on their way back to the State.
Speaking to The sangai Express from numaligarh, an oil transporter conveyed that about 80 Manipur-bound loaded tankers are anxiously waiting for the Golaghat blockade to end.

While the oil tankers arrived at Numaligarh last night, nearly 40 trucks carrying other essential items are also stuck at the same area, the transporter mentioned and added that LPG bullet tankers are allowed to pass through the blockade zone.
Meanwhile, an official source confided that Government of Manipur had already intimated to Assam Government for ensuring safe passage of Manipur-bound commercial vehicles.
Similar initiative is being taken up by officials of Guwahati-based IOC's North East Integrated State Office, said the source while informing that talks are being held with blockade sponsors to facilitate free movement of Manipur-bound goods trucks.
On the otherhand, an IOC Chingmeirong Oil depot official said that the two-day strike by bank employees will have no impact on the operation of retail outlets as information has already been relayed to retail outlets to complete relevant bank transaction before the strike began.
