A little help could change the life of a young boy

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Elders, Brothers & Sisters,

I would like to request each one of you to spare five minutes of your valuable time to share the life of one of my friend who just completed 18 years. His name is Akshath, a local Bangalore boy. I am not related to Akshath. I just happened to know him since my fourth year of engineering as he was staying next door to me. He used to come to play cricket with us and later on I started helping him with some of his school subjects like maths and science. He is known to me for the last 5 years now. He calls me Bobby Uncle.

This is what happened to Akshath in the last one year.

Akshath had lost his father in May 2002. His father died due to a stroke. His father was a victim of polio on his left side. And due to a stroke, his right side got paralysed before his death.

Now Akshath is left alone with his younger brother Abhishek who is 15 years and is in the VIII standard. Abhishek is not mentallly matured. Akshath's mother has mental problems. She had been hurt by a cow on her backbone some 15 years back and was treated in NIMHANS, Bangalore for 2 years. After the death of her husband, she is totally unstable mentally. She does not know what she is doing and she stays in her room all the time. Thankfully one of Akshath's aunty has agreed to keep his grandmother in Mysore. So Akshath is looking after his mother and his brother.

Akshath was doing his PUC First year in PES College in Sceince. His father expired one day before his final year PUC exams and he could not take his exams. Later he dropped from college because of two reasons. Firstly, he could not afford to pay the fees for college. And being a science student, he would have to choose mostly engineering or medical after his XII which would cost him thousands and lakhs of rupees in admission and fees which he cannot afford to. And secondly, he is looking for a job to support his family during daytime and attend evening college. At present he is attending PUC Commerce classes in Vijaya College Jayanagar in the evening college and he intends to work during the day time. His father was working in the for a govt office and there are chances thath Akshath might get a job of a clerk in his father's office once he completes 18 years. He has completed 18 yrs recently and is on the process of getting a job. I only hope he gets it.

His only source of income at present is Rs. 5000/- per month from his father's pension. He gets rs. 2000/- per month from two small rooms which he rents out to his tenants. He manages his house, and his and his brother's education with the 5000 Rs which he gets per month and saves up Rs 2000/- per month from the rent. He has locked the PF of his father in a Post Office for the next 8.5 years. Since his mother is not mentally stable, he looks after house hold work like cooking, washing, sweeping, getting ration and everything else. He goes to college by bus and has classes from 5:00 pm to 9:20 pm. And he reaches home back only by 10:45 / 11:00 pm as he gets a bus only after 10:00 pm to reach home. He has very little time to look after his younger brother as he is out for college when his younger brother is back at home.

There are no relatives of Akshath in Bangalore. He has an aunty in Mysore who is looking after his grandmother and another aunty in Shimoga. None of his relatives are coming out to help him financially. He has lost everything in such a short time. He lost his dad. His mom is only present physically. He does not have money to treat his mother.

Could you imagine how it would be to have no father at the age of 18 ? Could you imagine having a mentally unstable mother who acts like a kid all the time .... who could not even look after u ? Could you imagine having to look after a younger brother who is mentally not matured and an old grandmother ........ with such a meagre amount of money ? Some of us are just very lucky. We got more than what we want. But some of us are deprived of everything in life. And all this happens because of Fate.

As a goodwill gesture, since Akshath does not have anybody, I am openning up a Savings Bank Account in the name of Akshath and decided to contribute to his account Rs. 300/- per month. This will be of great help to him and his brother. I am trying to support him as much as I can as he is equivalent to being an orphan. And he is an intelligent kid who dreams to complete his PUC Commerce and pursue his B. Com. I am trying to reach as many people as possible to see if there is anyone who would like to help Akshath and Abhishek. Please do let me know if any of you would like to help Akshath in any way. Even contributing Rs. 10/- would also be helpful because that could fetch him one meal. Even if no one is able to help financially, I have no regrets for sharing with you about Akshath who is such a brave boy.

I hope each one of you would bless me in what I am doing. Thank you so much to all of you.

God Bless.
