KOM KHURPUI LAM
The kom held a belief that theirs ancestors emerged from a big cave KHURPUI. The work KOM is derived from the word "LUKAKOM" from lukakom to kom which means Turban people. It is also said that the kom people are descendent of P.U Hring and Pu Dam who kept long hairs and wore turbans.
When our forefather tried to come out: of KHURPUI their path was blocked by ferocious tiger (SAMANG HUMPUI ). The elder's there planned a well organized policy for killing the tiger puvom who was the tamer used to wore a striped clothe soas to make the friendship with the tiger.
Thus Sai cheap killed by his bow and well equipped arrow as the tiger was bewitched and tamed by puvom. So after killing the tiger they held a grand feast at village called KHOLAMDAR by singing a song of victory with dancing in joyous and since the Kom Cultural Dance and song were originated.
1. KHURPUI - We are comming lets our physique shine the world.
2. REIVING LAM - It is a dance by young boys and girls,when the "REIVANG" flower is flowering.
3. SALIN LAM - When the kom adopted to Cultivation paddy celebrated harvesting festival by singing and dancing.
4. BUNTAK LAM - It is a dance performed during arrow shooting festivals called Derphun.
5. DAR LAM - It is a bell dance performed by young boys and girls.
6. WAIKEP LAM (WAR DANCE) - Waikep dance is an important pre-requisite items of dance which is held to promote alert and skill of the war men before going to wage war.
7. WAIKHONG LAM - It is a Musical drum dance performed by our forefathers. They sit together around the fire in a court yard sing and dance together.
8. REILAM - It is a dance performed by young boy & girls when hilly orchids are flowering. They formed group and go to hill side to pluck and collect different flowers and held a grand festival called Reilam.
