JAC demands justice; Minister's kin's death sparks furore

Imphal, March 10: Alleging foul deeds in the death of Nameirakpam Deben (47) reported to be a cousin brother of Social Welfare Minister N Loken, the JAC formed against the death has demanded the arrest of the culprits.

The deceased who received head and body injuries passed away today at Shija Hospitals and this reporter saw the body lying at the home of the beareaved family's home.

Smelling a rat in the incident, people of Leimapokpam area instituted a JAC demanding the culprits involved to bring into book immediately.

Nameirakpam Deben (47) s/o N Kesho who ran a chemist shop at Yairipok Bazar was wheeled into the hospital after he mysteriously received head and body injuries on March 8. According to family sources, he went out for a morning walk at about 4:30 am on March 8 from his rented house at Yairipok Bazar.

He was escorted home unconscious by two persons with bruise marks on head and body.

Deben was admitted at Shija Hospitals the same day and passed away this evening at about 1:30 pm.

Accroding to relatives of the deceased, an FIR has been lodged on March 8 regarding the case at Yairipok Police station.

Deben, an original resident of Leimapokpam Mamang Leikai has been staying at his rented house at Yairipok Bazar running a chemist shop with his family since past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters studying at class IX and V.His wife, a paralysis patient did not have any clue about the incident, but his elder daughter recognised the two persons who escorted Deben home that day.

According to his elder daughter, the two persons had told her that Deben was injured as he slipped with his head striking the road.

However, there were several wound marks on his body and head indicating of a serious assault, she added.

Meanwhile, a JAC against the killing of N Deben has been instituted at Leimapokpam Mamang Leikai to press the Government regarding the incident.

Alleging that Deben's case was an intentional killing, JAC general secretary N Subhashchandra demanded for ex-gratia before Shradha ceremony of the deceased.

The JAC also warned the Government that they would take up various agitations if the Government fails to book the persons involved.
