Meitei Leepun hails centre, banks on armed forces

Imphal, October 03 2023: Meitei Leepun has recalled its earlier statement and reiterated that the ongoing wave of unprovoked violence targeting the Meetei community by Kuki militants in Manipur is an external aggression.

The violence has led to numerous fatalities and extensive damage to properties, plunging the state into turmoil.

In a statement, Meitei Leepun proclaimed that the violence in Manipur is not merely an ethnic clash between Kukis and Meeteis but an armed attack on India by illegal immigrants residing in South and Southeast Asian regions.

The chief of Meitei Leepun, Pramot, emphasised this during an interview with 'The Wire' on June 6, pointing to Kuki militants based in Bangladesh and Myanmar as the aggressors, it stated.

The statement further said that this viewpoint has been corroborated by statements made in the Parliament by the Union Home Minister and External Affairs Minister, asserting the involvement of Kuki militant groups based in Myanmar and Bangladesh in a conspiracy to launch pre planned violence, intending to wage war against India.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on September 30 further supported this claim, revealing that these Kuki militant groups conspired with certain leaders within India to orchestrate the violence.

Meitei Leepun has been actively advocating for intervention by both the Union and state governments to expel illegal immigrants and safeguard the indigenous population of Manipur, it stated, while expressing appreciation for the steps taken by the governments, and also placing their faith in the integrity and professionalism of the armed forces? It also expressed hope and aspiration for the prosperity, dignity, and security of the indigenous people of Manipur under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister N Biren, envisioning a harmonious and progressive 21st Century India.
