Disqualification proceedings taken up

The Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker's Tribunal has initiated disqualification proceedings under the Constitution's 10th Schedule against Sanasam Bira who was elected to the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Kumbi AC on Congress ticket and is currently supporting the BJP-led coalition Government.
Notably, another disqualification case is underway at the Speaker's Tribunal against Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar who was elected to the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Congress ticket from Andro AC.
The Speaker's Tribunal has already initiated disqualification proceedings against six other MLAs namely; Y Surchandra, Ksh Biren, P Brojen, Ngamthang Haokip, O Lukhoi and Ginsuanhao who were all elected on Congress tickets but switched allegiance to BJP.
As the disqualification petitions filed against the Congress MLAs are now over six months old, disqualification proceedings have been initiated against them under the Constitution's 10th Schedule, sources informed.
Moirangthem Sobha of Kumbi Terakha and Salam Jayentakumar of Kumbi Terakha Sana Khongnang Leikai filed a disqualification petition against MLA Sanasam Bira at the Speaker's Tribunal.
Acting on the petition, the Speaker's Tribunal has directed S Bira to appear in person or send an authorised person before the tribunal at 10.30 am of July 27 .
The tribunal further directed the MLA to furnish written comment/ reply regarding the petition on or before July 27 .
In a similar disqualification case, the Speaker's Tribunal has directed MLA Ksh Biren, elected from Lamlai AC on Congress ticket, to appear before the tribunal on July 27 .
One Paonam Herabi of Tellou is the petitioner of the disqualification petition filed against Ksh Biren at the Speaker's Tribunal.
